Day 2 of training at Watertown- Getting comfortable on the Black River

August 20, 2004

Today Emily, Dane, and I paddled at Hole Brothers one more time, doing 5 competition rides, then some work on specific moves. For me it was backstabs, and back loops and super cleans. For Emily it was her right/left splitwheel, for Dane it was his front loop and righty blunt and splitwheel. We went out at 7:30 and beat the crowd. So far the crowd consists of Devon Barker, Todd Graff, World Class Kayak Academy (14 people), Tracy and George from Colorado, and about 10 locals. Luckily the river runs all day so on average we have paddled with only the Jackson family and about 4 others. As the competition grows closer the river will begin to fill up and earlier workouts in the morning will be needed to beat the crowd. Kristine just checked on the Route 3 Wave and it is finally going!!! It isn’t perfect yet, it is tall and steep and mostly green, with only intermittent foam pile. Once they get it tweaked the foampile will be steady, with a tall green shoulder for Helix, Donkey Flips, Aerial blunts, and the foam for the hole moves, cool.

The next photos will be from the wave.
