All Water Day Tripper Journey Riviera

Power Outdoors MI

I had the pleasure of attending the Boat Show in Grand Rapids with the Slominski family that owns Powers Outdoors in Rockford/Newaygo Michigan. These guys have an amazing business and really loyal customers… in 3 days they sold 23 Day Trippers not to mention Riviera’s and the perfect kids boat… The mini tripper! Very cool indeed.

Well here is a write up from Gabe about how the show went and some info on their store. As he says, it’s great to get a couple family owned business working together… Powers Outdoors is THE place to shop for paddlesports in Michigan…

Powers Outdoors Paddles into 2010

Powers Outdoors, a Michigan based company with three locations, has already glimpsed the 2010 paddle season…and it is good! Recently, Powers Outdoors was one of the many vendors at the Grand Rapids boat show held at the DeVos Place, situated right alongside the Grand River in downtown GR. Although many of the show attendees are there to visit ski and power boats, a large majority of them are also in the kayak, canoe and now stand up paddleboard market. Powers Outdoors has been a vendor at the GR Boat Show for the last eight years. “It makes sense for us to be here,” says Jacob Slominski of Powers Outdoors, “everyone at this show is looking for recreation in some shape or form, so having a booth full of kayaks and stand up paddleboards draws a lot of attention.” The Boat Show generally marks the beginning of the season for boaters and paddlers alike, and provides a good indication of what is to come in the year ahead. Powers Outdoors saw a 40% increase from the sales at last years show. “It is apparent that people are back to feeling comfortable about spending money on ‘fun’ this year,” Slominski noted, “I think people have just been waiting to see how things were going with the economy, and finally they are ready to start shopping again.”

This year also came with an exciting announcement as Powers Outdoors unveiled the new 2010 line of Jackson Kayak Recreational and Touring lineup. Powers Outdoors has been in business since 1941, and selling kayaks throughout the Midwest and beyond since 1996. Powers Outdoors has become Michigan’s largest independent kayak dealer, selling boats to all surrounding states and Canada. Greg Slominski of Powers Outdoors stated that “bringing in Jackson’s new Rec/Touring line of kayaks fits perfectly with the types of boats that we sell. In fact, the Day Tripper has already been one of our best selling kayaks of 2010,” claimed Slominski, “Jackson hit a home run with this kayak because everyone can paddle it AND it is super stable.” Like Powers Outdoors, Jackson Kayak is also a family owned and operated company. In a day and age where many of the larger kayak manufacturers are more concerned with selling to big box stores, Jackson Kayak has remained focused on customer service driven sales. “Customer Service is how smaller companies like Powers Outdoors stay in business,” stated Slominski, “ and being a dealer of Jackson Kayaks allows us to highlight special features on their boats like “made in the USA”, or “lifetime warranty,” which both go a long way in this business.”

So, the prediction is in…the 2010 paddle season looks STRONG and Powers Outdoors along with help from companies like Jackson Kayak, hope to get America moving again (in a kayak that is!)
