Well it is getting to be that time of year again. Halloween comes along, and then it’s already November, and what comes next? ………… You guessed it, Green Race.
Clay, Dane and myself all made the pilgrimage to Shane Benedict’s house in North Carolina. It has been awesome being back on the Green River. It truly is a classic river. It has also been really cool seeing everyone flock to Ashville area for the race. Here at Shane’s house alone, we have 3 Canadians, 2 Germans, 1 New Zealander, 1 Norwegian, and 5 Americans.
Though I don’t think anyone has been training like Dane. While Clay and I had been scouting the smaller sections on the course, Dane rallied down to Gorilla to do some laps. Clay and I then cruised down. I caught the eddy after Gorilla to wait for Clay, and what do I see, Dane walking back up. Now this alone didn’t surprise me at all. It is when Dane told me he had run it 7 times and twice backwards. Clay and I continued down to the finish of the race course, and waited for Dane to do his lap. Though what really made me laugh was when Dane came sliding down ‘Rapid-transit’ (finish slide of the race), and Dane signalled to me the #3. I knew right away what he was talking about, he just did another backwards run off Gorilla.
We all continued to walk back up to watch a couple more people fire off Gorilla. Dane felt he needed two more laps to finish his day off with a whopping 10 runs off of Gorilla.
The total count:
10 Gorilla laps, 2 Backwards laps, 1 Sideways lap, 5 Speedtrap surfs, Dane Jackson not even fazed = priceless.
Here is the video of Dane’s GoPro from all 10 laps, numbers 4 and 5 are my two favourite to watch, Dane has a pretty sweet backwards boof.

Just realized Dane is a Jackson.. I was going to kid him that if I showed his mom the video of his runs she would lock him up….
Guess not eh
I watched Dane run and run again and all I can say is damn that kid is dedicated and full of energy! I don’t know which was more impressive, the working in the speed trap or the hike back up to the top.
Good luck Dane, I will be watching the race Saturday.
