This past weekend, I took a trip up to Reliance, TN to do some flyfishing and paddling on the Hiwassee River. My Brother-in-law and I arrived Friday morning. The guys at the flyshop didn’t exactly raise my spirits with their talk of how tough the fishing was, but we launched anyway. While they were right about the fishing, it was still great to be out there on a great river in a great boat. I caught a few fish, including my first yellow perch. I also had a good time playing in the shoals and rapids.
Ending the day on a riverside deck with a cool beverage wasn’t bad either.
Saturday, our families joined us for a fun float down the river. It was crowded, as expected, but I really enyoed giving my daughter her first experience with whitewater. My wife and dughter are in the yellow ducky you’ll see in the video.
Once again, the Coosa has risen to the occasion. I used to take whitewater boats down this river, but they sure weren’t as comfortable as the Coosa.

Does the rated weight for a boat include the weight of the kayak itself?
What is the weight of the Coosa?
Thanks for the information.
Ron Mullin
The rated weight is for you, yourself and what you put into the kayak, as the weight of the boat is a constant we didn’t want anyone to strain themselves with math.
Hope this helps -

Awesome. I am fairly new to kayak fishing, although I have fished since I was a child. I have a Ranger bass boat and fish a tournament trail. Since I have done a few float trips with a fairly new friend, I have REALLY REALLY ENJOYED IT!I made a down payment on a Coosa at THE OUTSIDE WORLD in Columbus, Ga on Monday. Chris & Josh are super nice. They were very helpful and patient as I looked at the Cossa and asked questions. I had already done a lot of “research” on the internet looking at various brands and fishing specific models that each offered. The JAKSON COOSA really caught my attention because it was designed especially with the river angler in mind. I read reviews and chatted with a handfull of people about their experience with the COSSA. I went to look at it last week, and Chris helped me out. I talked with a couple of other people and then went back on Mon. to make my payment to hold a CAMO COOSA. I am pumped about paying it off & picking it up VERY SOON!!! If you are anywhere close to Columbus, GA and have any interest in a JACKSON COOSA (or other types & brands of kayaks), call THE OUTSIDE WORLD & ask for Chris or Josh. They are very helpful.
Thanks for the compliment to a dealer that is certainly one of the best specialty kayak shops in the country! Let us know how you’re enjoying the Coosa when you get it!
Here is the link to the vid. But, you can also get to it and many others by visiting the Jackson Channel at Youtube.
