Monsoon Madness 2013

Yet another successful Monsoon Madness festival was held in Cairns. The wet season has unexpectedly been delayed which made for lower flowing rivers in the Far North Queensland area.

The National Boatercross Championships was held on the Barron river as our usual Crystal Cascades section was not flowing. In saying this it made for a great spectacle as the crowd could watch the entire section and the action which came thick and fast.

The two hot favorites, Phillip Gibbins and Christian Fabris went head to head in the semi finals which was a nail brighter. Christian lead all the way just to be tagged on the main rapid where he was spun out and Phil took the win.

Phil then won the finals taking out the cash purse against Liam Corr who raced a very close second.
Sue Robb took out the women’s and local boater Kye took out the juniors. I was happy to take out the hand paddling class in a smaller than average field.
In the freestyle event on Sunday, we held the National Freestyle Championships and Australian team selections with a small but devoted field.
