Sycamore Creek is 30 minutes northwest of Nashville in Cheatham County Tennessee. Sycamore Creek is one of my favorite creeks near Nashville. Knowledge of access points, flows, levels, and portaging Power mill dam are important considerations for trip planning. Paddle Adventures Unlimited planned a trip with Run-A-Muck Outfitters. Run-A-Muck Outfitters offers kayak and canoe rentals, access and shuttle for Sycamore Creek, and additional options including Red River, West Fork of Red River, and the Cumberland River.
We paddled the secluded upper section from HWY 41A to Power Mill Dam also known as Sycamore Mill. The dam must be portaged river right on a golf course. Creek access at the dam access is private property. I am fortunate to be friends with the property owner, and the outfitter. Sycamore Creek is more of a paddle than a float.
The Jackson Kayak Coosa is my favorite sit on top for maneuvering moving water and tight turns. The Coosa rockered hull makes it nimble and maneuverable for small creeks like Sycamore Creek.
