Youngest kayaker on the Ocoee?

As a Father I could not be happier. I have take my daughter, Rory Jolee Adkins down a few rivers such as the Nantahala, Locust Fork, Mulberry Fork and the lake a few times. She has a grown a love for the river and for over a year I have listened to her tell me she is ready to do the Ocoee. I was a little skeptical about the entire day just because I was a Dad and the size of the rapids to her are like the Zambezi. But she kept insisting we go and even told me she would be mad at me and not give me any more kisses. So after getting ready we headed to the put in. From the start she was so excited and ready to hit all the waves. One of the main reasons is the warmth of the river. I was concerned with repeatedly hitting her in the face with too many waves not allowing her to get good breaths and this could possibly freak her out. I got the best response at the biggest rapids which made me a happy Dad. Here is the video of our kayaking adventure. Rory had the best time and now she is ready for her own kayak. So parents my hint of advice to you is take it at the pace of your kids reactions. Be patient and instill a natural love for the water. Get your kids on the water.
