Weeki Wachee River is crystal clear waters named by the Seminole Indians and translates to “winding river”. The river originates as a spring at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park and flows to Florida’s Nature Coast at the Gulf of Mexico. We scouted a 5 1/2 mile paddle from the beginning to Roger’s Park. Paddling Adventures outfitter at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park provides kayak and canoe rental, shuttle, and paid private access. The access fee includes a cart for transporting kayaks, canoe, gear, and kids from the parking area to the access. We rented a Jackson Kayak Cuda 12 from Riversport Kayaks in nearby Homosassa Springs. Riversport Kayaks allows on site launching, or off site kayak transport for exploring your choice of amazing paddling destinations in the area. If you are equipped to transport a kayak, this is a great option for choosing from a variety of quality kayaks to meet your needs, choice of paddling destinations, and schedule flexibility. A peacock escorted us to the access. We paddled upstream a short distance to view of the spring. Weeki Wachee River is clear with an abundance of wildlife and aquatic life. We paddled at our leisure, stopped to swim, and enjoyed the natural beauty.
