Birthday float trip in the Ozarks

Last weekend I had the opportunity to fish beside a man who “took a kid” fly fishing once. Some 25 years ago, Ben introduced his sons to the passion. This month he turned 63 and they decided to take him fly fishing to celebrate. But don’t get confused Ben fishes hard. Last year, we fished through a category 1 hurricane in Colorado.

On this trip, we had a flycraft (2 man raft) and my two kayaks (Cuda 12 and MayFly). We all expected him to get in the raft but he jumped right into a kayak. Over the next two days Ben held his own kayaking, wading and working the sticks. His loops were tight and his drifts were rewarded often. At 63 years young, he’s still setting the example and living the “old guys rule” slogan. I would fish with him any day of the week. It was a great trip. Here’s a short video from our trip in to the Ozarks chasing trout.
