J Rat, as he is known around the shop, is a native of Owingsville, Kentucky. Before coming to JK in the Fall of 2004 he was in Quality Control with Toyota which basically means he got to test drive their cars on a really cool test track and do troubleshooting. After that he worked with Rogers Foam out of Lexington which is how he got to know so many folks in the kayaking industry. We are lucky to have him here at JK as our leader on the homefront.

John has been kayaking for only a couple of years but don't let that fool you. His favorite river is the Ottawa and McCoys Rapid. He also jumped right into the hole at Rock Island at 3,600 cfs one of the first times he was in town checking us out. When not out on a river or keeping things going at the shop you can usually find him either out in his boat wakeboarding or burning something at his house. He swears he's not a pyro but the evidence says otherwise! His dream kayaking trip is to run the Colorado through the Grand Canyon.
