My accolades are only a small part of my paddling. I am most proud of being a part in teaching, training, and paddling with my family, and friends. I am now a student as much as a teacher, which I am so lucky for. Dane, Emily, and Nick are family and each of them are now my coach, as I am theirs, my family. Other members of Team JK are also my coaches and great friends. I am so lucky to be surrounded by many of the world’s best paddlers. We all have more fun in one day than many people have in a life time, it seems. We are lucky, blessed in that way, and driven.
My stats read something like this:
I have won the biggest international freestyle competition of the year 6 out of the last twelve years including: 3 Men’s Pro World Championships, 2 Men’s Pro “Pre-World Championships, and 1 World Cup for Men’s Pro (I also won the 1993 World Championships) I got a silver medal twice in the World’s- 1997, and uh-um… 2009, to my son-in-law Nick. I have won over 100 events, the most of any kayaker in history. (much has to do for how long I have been doing it!) I have a long history of extreme racing, winning most of the Gorge Games (Upper White Salmon, OR) races, for both Extreme and Boatercross, as well as many Great Falls races, and more. Olympics and slalom are in my background with USA Team appearances from 1989-1998.
I have designed with my design-partner David Knight the freestyle kayaks that won events in the 1999, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011 world championships. We believe we have the winning design for the 2013 Worlds too.
I am a creeker, river runner, fisherman, playboater, instructor, author, video producer, designer, company owner, and I love to play alot. I’ll see you on the water!
My Sponsors Include:
GoPro, Kokatat, Werner Paddles, and of course Jackson Kayak. 🙂
