Aaron Rubel lives in the Mobile Bay area of the Gulf Coast.  He is a husband, father, a fly fisherman of over twenty years, and an avid kayak angler since 2006.  Originally from Michigan, Aaron grew into the sport of fly fishing on the winding rivers of the Upper Midwest and now enjoys developing knowledge in saltier waters.

As a writer, Aaron Rubel’s articles have appeared in Kayak Angler Magazine, Paddling Magazine, Great Days Outdoors Magazine, regional publications, and he blogs on IcastInaYak.com.  Aaron is a seasoned speaker on how to utilize a kayak in delivering a fly to fish on unchartered waters.  Aaron has made appearances on a PBS children’s out of doors television episode, a PBS watershed conservation documentary, and has been a guest speaker at events including the Midwest Fly Fishing Expo (largest fly fishing expo east of the Mississippi River).

Beyond Aaron’s efforts to grow the sport of fly fishing in the genre of kayak angling, he has made contributions to conservation.  He is a former statewide Executive Committee member of Michigan Trout Unlimited, Past President of Clinton Valley Trout Unlimited, volunteer in the Mobile Bay oyster reef restoration project, lead Instructor in the State of Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Becoming an Outdoor Woman Kayak Fishing class, and producer of a video in coordination with the Louisiana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife on the Tag Louisiana fish tagging program.
