Hello my name is Ottilie Robinson-Shaw , I’m 15 and live on the east coast of England.
I love all watersports and have a huge passion for Kayaking especially freestyle for the intensity of competition mixed with the friendly community of paddlers you meet along the way. I find it amazing that as a junior starting out a few years ago I was able to paddle with awesome paddlers including world champion Claire O’Hara who was fully prepared to offer time and encouragement despite being in the middle of her own training programme.
For freestyle I adore my small plastic competition spec 2016 Rockstar which really is super light yet tough enough for everyday use especially in shallow features where not having to worry about hitting bottom really helps. For the waves and deeper holes I’m lucky to also have a carbon version which is lighter still and maybe goes a little bigger but they are similar to paddle which really helps with consistency.
Competition results last year were great with a junior women’s bronze medal at the European Championships in Plattling despite being the youngest competitor in the event followed by junior women’s titles at the Welsh Open and the SAS Hurley Classic plus near victory in the senior women’s final at Hurley tying on points and getting the runner up spot overall .
For boater cross I love my small Zen which really is a flying machine. I’m pretty new to boater cross but over the last year I have picked up overall victories in Nottingham’s Boater Cross League and very recently the senior ladies title at the Welsh Open.
I train as much as I can around school and have fun every week with fellow members of the Squarerock Team at Lee Valley Paddlesports Club and train with GB Performance Director Dennis Newton of Sweetwater Coaching at Nottingham’s National White Water Centre home of the 2021 world championships
I cannot wait for the 2017 world’s in Argentina and a chance to meet more of the Jackson Team and fellow competitors.
