The “Adventure Club” is a program sponsored by the Green Umbrella, a local non-profit organization working to improve the economic vitality and quality of life in the region around Cincinnati by maximizing the collective impact of individuals and organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability. Today the Adventure club took some local Cincinnati Public School students on a kayaking trip down the Little Miami River with the help of Loveland Canoe & Kayak and their fleet of Riviera’s, Regal’s and Day Tripper’s as well as a team of volunteers to help guide the trip. Needless to say I think all of the students had a blast as for some this was their first time on a kayaking river trip.
Over the past week or so, with the help of Xavier University and their indoor pool, the students got a chance to learn basic paddle strokes and try out boats in a controlled setting. They then took to the water today for this exciting event. We stopped at the historic Loveland Castle for a lunch break, quick tour of the castle and a little history lesson of this great landmark before paddling on to the local favorite rope swing on the river. All in all it was a great day, the students had blast and I am sure we will have a few new paddlers from the group.
