The Boise Whitewater Park has been an amazing resource in the heart of Boise, Idaho. A “waveshaper” allows for quick adjustments of both wave and hole features. Surfers, boogie boarders, and of course kayakers have been showing up and it’s becoming more popular with each passing day.
This past July, I was excited to hear that Dane Jackson, Sage Donnelly, and the Voorhees brothers would be down there doing a demo. A few of the world’s best freestyle kayakers came down to show the public what freestyle kayaking is all about.
The show started off with a hole where loops, space godzillas, mcnastys, and lunar orbits were demonstrated. Needless to say, it was impressive to watch.
After a while, the Voorhees father made an adjustment to the feature and in only a few minutes, a wave was created. I believe the wave may have been less ideal for showcasing their talent, but these guys continued to show what was possible.
A few dozen people came out to view the action. Many of the spectators were simply passing by on the greenbelt that runs on each side of the river.
The Boise Whitewater Park is among the best anywhere. The secret is getting out — we have it pretty good here in Boise, Idaho!
