Big Rig HD

Big Rig HD Introducing the Big Rig HD! One of Jackson Kayak's most popular fishing kayaks now gets the upgrades of both its HD predecessors, the Coosa HD and Cuda HD. Most importantly, the Big Rig HD can be converted into the Big Rig FD with purchase of the Pedal Pod system. The HD version of the Big Rig has features an oversized center storage pod (Paddle Pod), foot-controlled rudder system, our High Hi-Lo Ergo Seat Frame with MOLLE System, which includes infinite fore-aft trimming and the unique Big Rig rod troughs are doubled up with TWO rod tubes on both sides of the bow. The Big Rig HD's new rod staging system lets you set down and snap up your rods at a moments' notice. Unlike the other HD models, the rod tubes can also accommodate fly rods up to 9' in length with fly reel geometry behind the seat. Jackson Kayak's use of track systems remain throughout giving you flexibility in setting up for the day of fishing and our hulls are molded for Raymarine and Power-Pole readiness. Storage is upgraded throughout the Big Rig HD with hatches updated to new rotating latches. Upgrading from the HD to the FD is a snap - the Paddle Pod is replaced with our Pedal Pod, which includes geometry for our FlexDrive unit, and the rudder controls convert to hand rudder controls for the FD experience. From the FD, the addition of our E-Drive (coming January 2019) means a truly hands-free fishing experience, where the rudder controls return to foot control and our battery will take you anywhere you want to go. Hull size and performance are comparable to the original Big Rig, but features an elongated keel for superior tracking while paddling, pedaling, or motoring. The FlexDrive system allows forward and reverse, has unique articulation to adapt to shallow water, obstacles, or cleaning, and is removable for true kayak use.

When will the new Big Rig HD be available? I am a large guy, 6’8″ and 310 lbs, and I just cannot wait for this new kayak to come out so I can get out on the water!

Hi Michael, we’re fired up on this boat, too! We’re looking at a November launch here.

My old Big Rig just got outdated ,knew it was coming someday. Love the flat deck insert on the HD, wish mine was flat. Send out a crew with a HD and a FD Big Rig( maybe a 360 angler also?) when they get released ,and I can show you around Chimney Rock reservoir in Eastern Ok. It is around 1200 acres of small mouth and black bass fun. It’s a really unique lake. It’s a diked off mountain top. They pump water up from Hudson lake , through several giant tubes that run up the side of the mountain. The water flows back out and produces hydroelectricity. Chimney Rock( “The pumpback” as we call it) is over 100 feet deep in the middle. Some huge blue cats, and monster drum lurk in the depths. I like finesse fishing for bass and sometimes you set the hook and just a slow to fast drag slipping till it breaks nothing you can do about it. It’s a electric only ,no swimming lake. How do you explain to a warden that you fell out of the biggest widest stablest kayak there is and was not just cooling off from the heat. Maybe I need a wilderness or feel free sticker for the hot days so I don’t get in trouble cooling off.

How much is the cost of the flex drive conversion? If I already have a cruise fd, it would be nice to be able to switch back and forth.

    1. September 24, 2018 at 11:50 am

Hi Ryan, if you’re wanting to get the ‘conversion pod’ for the Big Rig to go from HD to FD and you already have the upper and lower units from your Cruise FD the price will be $149. Price for the pod to convert from FD to HD will be $149 as well.

      Hope that helps!

been looking at kayaks for a while and the big rig hd looks like the one! would like to upgrade it to peddal drive eventually. what would the upgrade cost and does that include hand rudder control? Seems like foot rudder control would be a little tough with a pedal drive

    1. October 16, 2018 at 9:59 am

Hi Daniel – We’re still dialing in the upgrade price at the moment. The HD version comes standard with a foot-controlled rudder system (something we’ve not offered standard on a fishing kayak before!), and the conversion kit includes all you’ll need to swap controls from foot to hand control. You’re spot-on…a foot-controlled rudder system would be a tricky wicket with a pedal drive 🙂

Do you have any idea yet as to the standard colors that will be available on the Big Rig HD? Also what will be the up charge for a custom color? Thanks.
    #imjackson4life

    1. November 14, 2018 at 3:59 pm

Howdy Kirk, the standard colors will be the same as the Coosa FD, MayFly, etc. If you look at the pictures in the studio gallery for one of those boats it should help you out. Custom colors are +$200 and could add six to eight weeks.

      Hope this helps!

Do these still have the stand assist bar from previous big rigs?

    1. January 17, 2019 at 11:02 am

Hi James, they do not. You can pick one up in either our store at store.jacksonkayak.com or snag one of YakAttack’s Command Stands.

Where can I purchase the rod stagers? My new big rig only came with one.

    1. January 30, 2019 at 11:26 am

Hey Daniel, you should have received both a left and right rod stager. Shoot an email to the folks at info@jacksonkayak.com and let them know – we’ll get one out to you directly.

Can I order this in Realtree? Also, I plan on doing a lot of duck hunting out of it. Is there a production blind available? And/or a reclining/layout seat?

    1. February 4, 2019 at 11:28 am

Hi Brad, we will not be offering this model in Realtree. Currently we do not have a blind available – try sending an email to the fishing pros (askajkfishingpro@jacksonkayak.com) and they’ll be able to offer some solid recommendations. The seat will lay flat when the straps at either side of the seat are released.

      Hope this helps!

Hi, i’m interested in knowing what all comes with the kayak as a package? Does it come with just whats on the kayak and a seat or does it come with a paddle or with storage bags like some of your other models did?

    1. March 21, 2019 at 4:06 pm

Hey Daniel! This boat does not come with a paddle but it does come with a seatback snap MOLLE storage pouch. You can see the full list of items that come with the Big Rig HD under the ‘Product Description’ tab on the kayak page – Let me know if you can’t find it.
